What this site is

An independent comparison of the guided aurora chases that leave Tromsø, plus the practical information a visitor needs before booking one. We are not a tour operator, a travel agency or a seller of travel. We hold no bookings, take no payments and have no staff in Norway.

Every booking happens on the operator's own platform under their terms. If something goes wrong with a chase, the operator and the platform are who you deal with, not us.

Where the tour data comes from

Prices, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions, group caps, age limits and cancellation terms are read directly off each operator's own listing and reproduced with the date they were read. Every tour page carries the same fields in the same order so the five chases can be compared line by line, and each one states its own price-last-checked date.

We do not copy operator marketing descriptions. Where an inclusion, a return window or a guarantee condition is quoted, it comes from the listing's own inclusions or additional-information block.

Why the ratings are not directly comparable

The three GetYourGuide listings show ratings built from verified bookings made through that platform. The two Viator listings show a figure that Viator itself describes as combining reviews from Viator and Tripadvisor.

That is why a 5.0 on one platform and a 4.6 on another are printed here with their source named rather than merged into a league table. We publish the review count beside every rating for the same reason: 6,771 reviews and 1,374 reviews are not the same evidence, whatever the average says.

Where the season and climate information comes from

The aurora season window, Tromsø's position inside the auroral oval and the usual viewing hours are checked against Visit Tromsø and other published local sources, then dated on the page. Winter temperature ranges are long-term figures published for Tromsø, not a forecast for your night.

No figure on this site claims a sighting probability. No operator compared here publishes a verified success rate, and where one advertises a percentage on its own listing we attribute it to the operator rather than repeat it as fact.

How traveller feedback is used

Traveller feedback reviewed: more than 13,400 verified reviews across the five listings.

We quote reviews with the reviewer's first name, country and the month they travelled, exactly as published, and we do not edit them into something more flattering. Critical reviews are quoted alongside positive ones, including the report of thermal suits that did not arrive for children at −28 °C and the complaint about a chase that stayed in one place. We never write testimonials.

What we cannot verify

We do not ride the chases, meet the guides, drive the routes or audit safety records. We cannot tell you whether a particular guide made the right routing call on a given night, whether a listed inclusion appeared, or whether the suit in your size was on the van.

We also cannot see live availability or the price you will be quoted for your date. The figures here are starting prices at the time of the check, and two of them were discounted when we read them; the number that matters is the one on the checkout page.

How affiliate links affect this

Links to tours are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going directly. The full arrangement is set out in the affiliate disclosure.

Commission does not decide which tours appear, the order they sit in, or what is said about them. The cheapest chase on the site earns the least, and the most expensive one carries the site's most critical paragraph — the fact that its fare is non-refundable for any reason.

Corrections

Prices move with the calendar, guarantees get rewritten and operators swap vehicles between seasons. If a number here is out of date, tell us what you found and when you were there. Corrections get made and the check date on the page is updated with them.
